Ocean Biogeographical Information System (OBIS) Website

The Ocean Biogeographical Information System (OBIS) is the information component of the Census of Marine Life (CoML), a growing network of more than 1000 researchers in 73 nations engaged in a 10-year initiative to assess and explain the diversity, distribution, and abundance of life in the oceans - past, present, and future.

Future of Marine Animal Populations (FMAP) Website

The Future of Marine Animal Populations (FMAP) is an international network to develop statistical models that can be used by the Census of Marine Life to design field sampling programs, synthesize data, make predictions, and further our understanding of the limits of knowledge.

The Census of Marine Life (CoML)

The Census of Marine Life is a growing global network of researchers in more than 70 nations engaged in a ten-year initiative to assess and explain the diversity, distribution, and abundance of marine life in the oceans -- past, present, and future.

Leigh Marine Laboratory

Leigh Marine Laboratory, where this study was conducted, is the marine teaching and research department of the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Leigh Marine Laboratory researchers have been studying marine reserves for over 30 years. New Zealand leads the world in that 30 of its 50 MPA are “no-take” marine reserves. These include 19 seamounts protected from bottom trawling. A new proposal to protect 30% of New Zealand offshore seabed from bottom trawling would mean it protects proportionally more of its oceans than any other country.

Institute for Marine Remote Sensing (IMaRS) - University of South Florida

The Institute for Marine Remote Sensing (IMaRS) of the College of Marine Science is located in the Knight Oceanographic Research Center (KORC) building at the University of South Florida (USF) in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Our research activities focus on the analysis of digital data obtained by satellite and airborne sensors, and on the development of applications of these data at local, regional, and global scales.
